We loved the Hydro Plunge, which is like a water slide roller coaster. As for which slide is most fun, it’s really a personal decision. There are signs at the bottom telling you what to do, but lots of people don’t look at them. One tower you climb carrying nothing (rafts go up on a conveyor belt), and the other you need to bring a raft. We did love the big kid (aka good for adults too) slides, which you access from the two towers you need to climb (good exercise). Just a warning that the boards are a little heavy, so kids may need help with them. ![]() Plus when you start at the top, it blares out music at top volume, which scared the hell out of us. You can ride the slide without activating your board, but it won’t monitor you and the slide lights won’t light up as you’re going through (the goal is to push the corresponding color button when going under that color LED display in the slide). The names we tried, which were deemed inappropriate, were “JerseyKids,” “Jersey” and “Deb.” Even if you play without a name, you need to at least activate your board – preferably at the bottom, or you’ll have to activate it on top which wastes everyone’s time. Unfortunately, it said that all our names (except Zack) were inappropriate and they might boot us out if we keep trying to use these names. First you log in at a kiosk and choose a name. You can play a video-type game when going on one of two slides with them. We were excited to try the slideboards, which look a bit like boogie boards with handles. The Great Wolf Lodge has 7 big water slides, plus smaller ones – 13 total. By late afternoon, the lines were much better, though one slide, the Double Barrel Drop, still had long lines. That’s essentially checkout time for those leaving the hotel (11 a.m.) and those coming in (new guests are allowed into the water park at 1:00 and departing guests can stay all day). Some of the water slides had longer lines than I expected (maybe 20 minutes), though we were also there at changeover times. ![]() Adults get RFID wristbands which act as room keys and can charge things. If your kids are young, that’s a bonus, but if they’re older, you may want to ask for an RFID wrist band for them. They do not give the kids these same wristbands, which means they can’t charge things (good), but they also can’t get into their room by themselves (bad). No room keys! Your electronic wrist bands will get you into your room and let you charge food and items around the hotel. ![]() Perhaps the most distinctive of all tabby cats is the red tabby or orange tabby cat. Like other tabbies, ticked cats have the “M”, leg, and tail markings – so if you see a tabby with these marks but barely any distinct body marks you are probably looking at a ticked tabby cat. Often ticked tabbies will have a body coat that looks fairly even in color and fairly unmarked but when inspected at close quarters you will see an even distribution of dark markings over the body – almost like a speckling of markings. Ticked tabby cats are slightly easier to identify than the other tabby patterns in so much as there is barely any body pattern! ![]() The most recognizable mackerel stripe pattern in the cat world is actually the tiger – so if you see a tabby with tiger stripes you know you are looking at a mackerel tabby cat. They are called mackerel cats because when viewed from above their pattern looks like that of a fish skeleton. The mackerel tabby is identified by dark markings that consist of a dark strip of hair along the backbone with dark stripes that emanate from the backbone stripe down the flanks of the cat. Mackerel Tabby or Striped Tabby Mackerel Tabby The Egyptian Mau cat is a famous variety of spotted tabby. The spotted tabby has the usual “M”, tail and leg stripes but then has a coat that is characterized by dark spots over a lighter background along the flank of the cat. ![]() The dark markings are usually patches, swirls, whorls, and marbling patterns – they look like they are wearing a dark camo pattern. Classic tabby cats have dark markings over a lighter body color. The classic tabby is the most common pattern type, hence the “classic” moniker. Classic Tabby British Shorthair Classic Tabby There are five main patterns to look out for. Let’s check them out here : Tabby Patternsīeyond the identification marks on the head, legs, and tail, you can spot a tabby by the markings on their body, but these markings can vary in shape and pattern. They are broadly recognized as having five main patterns, but then there are also several different types of tabby. They can vary in color, pattern, and type – as well as by breed. You might be surprised to know that these cats are actually quite varied. The ring marks may not be along the full length of the leg, but so long as some rings of dark fur are on their legs they are highly likely to be a tabby cat. Tabby cats tend to have rings or stripes of dark fur around their legs. If you need even more confirmation then look for markings on the cat’s legs. The tip of the tail will have darker fur and then there will be rings of lighter and darker fur along the length of the tail – a sure sign of a tabby cat! The next potential giveaway to look for is a ringed tail. In the Islamic tradition, the “M” is thought to mark the cat as the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBH) favorite animal after a tabby cat defeated a snake that was causing danger to the prophet. In the Christian tradition, some say the mark was put on the cat as a blessing by Mary after a cat kept the baby Jesus warm in a crib. The most obvious identifying feature is an “M” fur marking on their forehead with dark lines of hair that run over the top of their head.Įvery tabby has this mark and it has given rise to some interesting stories. There are several different types of these cats with different colors and versions of tabby coat patterns, but if you have to quickly identify a tabby cat there are some good rules of thumb that tend to apply to all tabbies. ![]() Long Hair Tabby Cat with “M” on Forehead What Does A Tabby Cat Look Like Tortoiseshell cats and calico cats are female 99% of the time. Torties and calico cats are also cats that are described according to their coat pattern rather than being a breed of cat. You can get long-haired tabby cats and short-haired versions – so long as they have the pattern they are a tabby. This means that a mixed breed cat can be a tabby cat and a purebred cat like a Persian or a Maine Coon can also be a tabby cat. “Tabby” describes the pattern on a cat’s coat. Tabby cats are not a distinct breed of cat. It is believed that as many as 70% of the 700 million domestic cats on earth are actually tabby cats! ![]() ![]() That’s important, as incursions are basically the entire catalyst behind the plot of 2015’s Secret Wars comic. While incursions are mentioned in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, The Marvels marks the first time we see this phenomenon in action. But on the plus side, at least she’s made some new friends in the X-Men. Unfortunately for her, that leaves Monica stranded in the other universe. Fortunately for everyone, Monica is able to use her light powers to seal the breach and stop the incursion. Dar-Benn inadvertently creates an incursion and places two universes in mortal peril. That’s essentially what we see in the climax of The Marvels. However, if the incursion isn’t halted, or if one of those Earths isn’t destroyed, a chain reaction begins that culminates in the destruction of both universes. In Marvel lore, incursions occur when two parallel universes begin to intersect, causing two Earths to exist alongside one another. She accidentally opens a doorway to another universe and is annihilated in the process.ĭar-Benn winds up creating a phenomenon known as an incursion. Instead, Dar-Benn loses control of her newfound power. Having acquired both Quantum Bands, she attempts to open a new portal to draw Earth’s sun into Hala’s solar system. Dar-Benn finally bites off more than she can chew in the climax of the film. Unfortunately, these new jump points are unstable, as it turns out you can’t just open holes in the fabric of space without there being severe consequences. ![]() We also learn that the Quantum Bands were used to create the jump point network in the first place, effectively opening the door for interstellar travel in the MCU. Dar-Benn hopes to steal the resources of other worlds to replenish the Kree homeworld of Hala, which was ravaged by civil war after Captain Marvel destroyed the Supreme Intelligence. Over the course of The Marvels, we learn that Kree Supremor Dar-Benn (Zawe Ashton) is using the power of the Quantum Bands to open new jump points in space. Each category is like an envelope full of cash-you can borrow from one if there was an oversight or indulgence. If you overspend from one category, just cover it by moving money from another category. ![]() Don’t turn budgeting into deprivation or a self-imposed source of shame or you’ll quit doing it. Dividing those irregular expenses into monthly amounts so they can accumulate by the time the total cost is due lets you hit the brakes on that financial rollercoaster. Unexpected expenses aren’t really unexpected, are they? You know your car will need new tires, the holidays come every single year, and you’re probably not going to cancel that Amazon Prime subscription. It will also help you focus and commit to what’s important to you. Why? Because it will bring you peace of mind to be able to see where your money is going and what it needs to do. Step Two: How Much Do You Have?ĭecide how you’re going to spend every dollar you have by assigning each and every dollar to a category. But you’re missing out on the best and most effective way of managing your personal finances if you stop there! Keep going because this is where it gets good. Now, before we get to step two, I want to call out that perhaps when you’ve previously thought of “budgeting” or “making a budget” that you’re done after step one. In YNAB, you can set up spending or savings targets to create an easy visual reminder of how much money you need to allocate, and by when (if applicable) to stay on track. Your budget (and your spending habits) should be a reflection of what matters to you. You’ll have a little more wiggle room when it comes to fun expenses and savings goals, but use those numbers to create a little accountability in your life-is your priority bottomless mimosas at brunch every Sunday or a three month emergency fund? There’s no wrong answer (regardless of what your dad would think). For non-monthly or variable expenses, like Christmas gifts, auto registration, car insurance, or annual subscriptions, divide your estimate by the number of months it takes for that cost to recur so that you can contribute manageable chunks on a monthly basis instead of choking on the whole cost when it comes up. Monthly expenses like rent, cell phone bill, electricity, student loan payments, health insurance, etc. Your budget plan is going to evolve as you journey down the path of financial enlightenment. Don’t get bogged down in this as you’re getting set up the first time-guessing is just fine. It can be a budget app (ahem, YNAB), Excel spreadsheet or Google Sheets, or…a brand new notebook…whatever works best for you.įirst, you need to come up with an estimate of how much each of those expenses will cost. What You Need to Create a Budget Templateīefore we get started, you’re going to need to make a list of the following things: Skip all of this good advice and jump straight to a Todoist checklist to create a budget template. So let’s talk about setting up a personal budget that will become a part of your normal life instead of another abandoned notebook. The point I’m trying to make is that the system is important, but implementing the actual habit into your day-to-day life is critical to long-term success, in both sock-matching and money management. We can stop buying the notebooks they’re not the missing piece. Okay, at this point, I’m talking to myself about myself. Seriously-the only reason you’re not perfectly organized/physically fit/financially independent/able to find matching socks in the morning is because you didn’t have the right system! If only you had bought a new notebook, matching sticky notes, highlighters, colored pens, patterned washi tape, and fancy paperclips for that particular project, you’d be killing it by now. ![]() The hope offered by a new process, system, plan, or notebook can be slightly intoxicating-it feels like the universe might finally be handing you that one pesky piece you’ve been missing that would complete the puzzle of Responsible Adulthood. Or maybe for the third or fourth or fifth time, but you’re serious about the “for all” part on this go around. So, you’ve decided to sit down and figure out how to create a budget template, once and for all. The appeal is obvious as it relies only on a limited field of view and quick, engaging action as the player is forced to manage their attention wisely enough that they can continue to avoid obstacles as they come. Think Jetpack Joyride or Temple Run, two games which also sought to emulate Surfer’s success. The player’s character is constantly moving, with the only options being to jump and dodge, with occasional boosts to make it easier or automatic. Subway Surfers is an ‘endless runner’ game, and perhaps one of the titles that popularised the genre. It also means that we only need to look at the gameplay of a single title rather than the changes incorporated across a wider series. Which is testament to the simplicity and appeal of the core concept. It shows that while earlier mobile games were simple, they were hardly primitive.Īlthough Subway Surfers has had multiple spin-offs, the first game has remained the most enduring and successful. All of which speaks to persistent success that is enough to compete even with newer titles from emerging genres. With the title once more topping the download charts for games in the latter part of 2022. In many ways then, you could argue it was also the game of the decade, given the massive nature of the mobile market itself.Įven today, Subway Surfers is a continuously developed and added-to game. From 2012 to 2019 it accrued more downloads than any other game on any app store. Subway Surfers also took home the prestigious achievement of being the top downloaded mobile game of the decade. ![]() The game would see massive success over the years, including being the first app to break one billion downloads on the Google Play Store. This meant they were perfectly placed to appeal to all manner of players from young to old. Subway Surfers would be an almost instant hit, joining games such as Angry Birds, Cut the Rope and Candy Crush in hitting the moment of transition where smartphones became the de facto method of communication, internet access and entertainment for millions of people. From whom we also get the basic info about the timeline of Subway Surfers development, as according to an interview from the time with Kiloo’s chief creative office Simon Mølle, “We started designing the game on 20 December 2011, had a working prototype in January 2012 and released 24 May.” SYBO did not work alone on Subway Surfers of course, as the game was initially co-developed with fellow studio Kiloo. You only need to compare the animation itself to the first trailer for Subway Surfers to see that, unlike Angry Birds, the concept was clearly in mind even before SYBO was founded. With a young man ‘tagging’ a train before being pursued by a security guard. With Trainbombing covering the basic story that would introduce the characters of Subway Surfers. The film they won first prize with was called ‘Trainbombing’ and is still available to watch today.Īlready you can see the seeds for what would become Subway Surfers being planted. The two had taken first-prize in the Hamburg Animation Award 2009, in a team with fellow competitors Rasmus Hansen and Rasmus Ustrup. The idea for Subway Surfers came from the two co-founders' earliest work in animation. Their previous efforts included Cosmic Cab and Powerflow, both of which were received in a fairly low-key manner. As the studio only had two other titles under their belt, before taking an existing concept and working it into the hugely successful game we now know today. SYBO’s idea for Subway Surfers did not come from happenstance, and in a way their story is more the ideal rather than the underdog story of Rovio. This marked the end of their self-ownership, but also brought them into the fold of one of mobile gaming’s newest and largest conglomerates. Unlike Rovio, SYBO has remained relatively the same throughout their history, up until they were acquired by Miniclip in 2022. As with Rovio, the two founders had initially met through their mutual studies at The Animation Workshop, a prestigious school for animation.
